Looking into a firearm purchase... 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 13
So I have been looking into getting a shotgun and pretty much decdided on getting this:

MOSSBERG 500 CRUISER SHOTGUN 12/18.5/CYL PISTOL GRIP 6SH

This shotgun is a Mossberg Special Purpose Shotgun Model: Cruiser. Proven performance and peace of mind. Mossberg Cruiser Models are equipped with a Pistol Grip stock instead of a full length shoulder stock.
About Mossberg 500 Shotguns

Featured in American Rifleman magazine. "Mossberg's Model 500 pump-action shotgun is a popular arm, due not doubt to its well-balanced combination of affordability and quality. The modular nature of the Model 500 product line certainly doesn't hurt either, and a dizzying number of barrel and stock options allow users to make a single Model 500 into either a pistol-gripped cruiser model of a 28"-barreled bird gun by simply switching out a few parts."

"The Mossberg 500 utilizes an aluminum receiver to reduce weight. Housed inside the Model 500's bolt is a steel bolt lock that engages a recess in its steel barrel extension for steel-on-steel lock up."

"Barrels are interchangeable within specific gauges and have been produced with and without ventilated ribs; open sights, bead sights and integral scope bases, in lengths from 18.5 inches to 32 inches; C-Lect-Chokes and provision for screw-in Accu-Choke; smooth or rifled bores and even a .50 cal. rifled muzzleloading version. (See specifications below for this particular model. Or, use our Advanced Search to find more Mossberg 500 shotguns with other features.)

Summary of Specifications

------------------

I believe that it should fit the bill for both home protection and any future OCMI shooting days. I have fired a Mossberg before and enjoyed the feel of it. This version comes like it shows and has all of the accessories that I wanted and would otherwise have to buy and put on myself (pistol grip, heat shield, 18.5 inch barrel, and 5 round magazine tube). Any thoughts or comments of this purchase prior to me actually doing it would be most helpful. It probably wont be until closer to Christmas time before I get it though.

Nice dude,

I have fired one of those myself. I enjoyed it. I am looking to get a colt 1911 myself, but that won't be for a little while.

i have the mossberg 88, basically the 500 but cheaper and accepts all the same mods, however, I've heard the 500 and 590s have dropped in price recently.

I had gotten a Remington 870 this past summer. Was suppose to go duck hunting in oct but forgot to go do my safety class and ran out of time to get into one. Guess I'll get it next year. Haven't been able to shoot it yet either looking forward to it.

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms chasing ghosts, eating magic pills, and listening to repetitive, addictive, electronic music.
