Quick Review

This game is epic in every sense of the word. In playing multiplayer for about 3 hours last night I was cheering, biting my nails, and cursing the skill of the other players. Some points of interest.

1. Maps are huge. If an area is hot you can simply flank around them. Time is never spent running up to the action because each spawn point has multiple vehicles without firepower (ATVs, Hummers, JetSkis) that can bring you up to the action or you can simply spawn next to someone in your squad who is already there.

2. Destructible environment. Tired of getting sniped by that dude camping in the back corner of that 3 store building in the center of the map? Destroy it. Either call in an airstrike, or use a vehicle (tanks, helicopter) to level the building. Then no one can use it. Cant get a good angle at troops advancing on your position? Use your 203 launcher and punch a hole in the concrete barricade that you can then fire through. Beautiful.

3. Vehicles are awesome. They can be both a curse and a blessing. Because the maps are so big a vehicle can vary rarely just straight up massacre the other team because there are so spread out. They are pretty easily taken out with a team effort of RPGs, C4, other vehicles(tanks, helicopters), or just an airstrike if the it sitting in one spot. However with a team effort to protect and repair vehicles they can dominate an area.

5. Sniping. One shot one kill is the way it should be. However when you have to account for bullet drop and time it takes the bullet to get there it’s not as easy to hit a moving target as you might think. This is a good thing. If someone is good at sniping then they are skilled. However with the maps being so big and the destructible environments they really have to be good to stay alive.

6. Party chat. I didn’t realize how much I missed Xbox Lives party chat system until I played this game last night. Being able to play a game and then talk with people who were not yet in the game to tell them how long before we finished or ask them how their life is going is good.

7. Tactical play. Because the maps are so big it makes the players who stay in a group a much stronger force then those that lone wolf it. If a single player comes across a group of players they are going to die. They may be able to take one person, two if they are lucky/really good but they will die. Dead players from the group can then respawn with live player from the group and the group can continue on.

8. Gameplay animations. Seeing a medic using defibulator paddles on a injured player is awesome. So is seeing an engineer whip out a welder and go to town on a damaged vehicle.

That’s all I can think about right now as they were just first impressions really. Going between this an Modern Warfare 2 is interesting. Modern Warfare 2 is simply who can pull the trigger the fastest where this game intelligence, tactics, and group play win the day.

Hey is anyone getting this for the PC? I don't want to play a battlefield game on a console, it needs to have dedicated servers and more players
