After careful evaluation and reading of this entire post, I would have to be stupid not to give my first born child to the devil to participate in this. Im in! Im down to carpool also, thats when things get at their best. I also agree that we should just rent a large passenger van....I just found this post and almost peed myself, I dont care who I have to kill or molest...Im going.

You think he's joking, but he's not. Coffee is part of the non-optional gear list at Chez Viper's

Each year I have been, they have added something new and opened up a different part of the field. The beauty of OR is that by just choosing to mow or not mow certain sections, the field can completely change. Some of the grass was over my head when standing straight up . Bear in mind that this is eastern OR right on the ID border. You should see how awesome the bush is on the western side of the mountains. This stuff is more prairie / desert climate. Some of the footing near the river is sand.

The bridge and the corn maze were new in '07. Nobody fell off, but the year before we were doing water crossings so it's not that big of a hazard. A few of us were running across it and bouncing on it the day before to test it out. It was solid, but suffered from resonance (Tacoma Narrows style and was kind of freaky, but fun to race across in full gear.

To drive up there we will need to be sure to balance passenger, cargo capacity, and cost. I did some research:

Enterprise:
12 passenger van
5 day rental(pick up day before we leave and return the day after we get back)
Milelage--unlimited
Restrictions--Cant leave the states of CA, AZ, and NV
Cost--$296.26(tax and fees not included)

Hertz:
No large passenger vans

Budget:
12 passenger van
5 day rental
Mileage--unlimited
Restrictions--none listed online
Cost--$420.21(tax and fees included)

Dollar:
No large passenger vans

National:
No large passenger vans

based on this a large passenger van may not be the best option to go with here unless we get enough people to offset the additional cost ($420 divided by 12 people is $35/person), the cost of gas, and the ability to bring all of our gear(personal, team, camping, and the whole bit).

Just some food for thought.

When ever I have rented cars, the smaller sportier cars have always been the cheapest minus convertibles because large vans are always (somehow) in high demand. Through budget, with the weekend specials, you can rent a four person car like a chevy impala for about a hundred dollars, if youre over 25. if not then there is a 25 dollar a day fee, then there is insurance as well but it is not mandatory, all with unlimited miles.
