Okay now the Broadsword is a fun position to play, basically you’re a Sabre with a bigger gun. Now in the following lists my views of a Broadsword are a little different than Team Spec-Ops. So just be ready. Team Spec-Ops uses Broadswords for suppression and defensive play. Not me. Broadswords are good on defense I’ll say that, but the thing that I do with Broadswords is put them up with the main action, there they can lend the use of their far-reaching and fast shooting gun.
A Broadsword requires a bit more money than the other players as you have to afford a TON of extra paint and Co2, but it all comes down to it in the end, Broadswords CAN rack up some serious kills if used correctly.
1. A Broadsword like everyone else on your team should be camouflaged. Woodland mossy-Oak break-up is an excellent choice for fall paintballing, and so is Digi-Camo but for a Broadsword, ghillie's are not needed nor recommend the ability to move quickly and surely far outweighs the one of sitting still and overheating.
2. For a Broadsword gun, an A-5 Tippmann works remarkably well. With the Cyclone feed more balls can be pumped out as fast as you need them, and more importantly the FLATLINE is available for the A-5, with the 20% increase in range the Broadsword makes for a quick and early effective use of Leapfrogging, being able to put the enemies heads down from that much farther away while the Daggers and Sabres move on up to assault the position. An E-Grip set on 3 or 2 ball burst is another thing that you might want to look at too, for a Broadsword 3 ball burst is all you need, fully automatic is a waste of paintballs. Don't just spray and pray, with the flatline you have the ability to shoot selectively use it well, you can even catch unsuspecting Daggers, and Sabre's from the other team with the Flatline.
3. Grenades Grenades Grenades! With your already loaded out pack, carrying this extra firepower is a nice thing to have, when you're looking' at better than just shooting suppression team up with your Sabre or just throw them yourself. These Grenades are enough to make ANY player duck when they see Little Betty or a Big Boy spilling through the air. They're excellent for any purpose that you want them to be used for.
4. Sometimes your team may need a mine or two, try to carry a few mines on you, because you are typically one of the strongest members of the team, you should be able to carry them no problem. Remember use your strength to help out the team and carry that extra equipment for them.
5. Gore-Tex low cut boots, Gore-Tex boots are the best brand out their in my own opinion, Army Boots look cool but don't perform up to Gore-Tex standards, trust me on this one.
6. PODS PODS PODS! With your job being long range suppression and setting up a line of fire, you’re going to need that extra paint. Carry C02 on you too, both will come in handy. Some might say to increase your hopper size, I’m partially against that because as a Broadsword your never going to be that far off the front lines and the extra profile and bigger targets aren't worth your own 'death' just duck behind cover and fill up again with a pod, it's no problem.
7. Of Course a Radio! They are a must have for any team, get the headset to, and if you don't have any problems with it add on VOX which comes with most higher-end civilian radios. By the way... Don't get a Motorola! They have a scan feature and the other team can 'scan' for the being used channels and easily tell which channel you're on and what you're saying a definite NO NO.
8. No scope is needed for your gun, and neither is a red dot sight. You can simply walk your rounds into the target, but if you really want something, get iron sights or a red dot, but remember take more than one shot!
9. PHYSICAL CONDITION: A Broadsword must be fit, like any other paintballer should be. He can't be fat and lazy; he must be able to carry heavier packs then the rest of the team. The HAMMER is too far back to offer quick mines and grenades or even extra paint to a Dagger or Sabre your Broadsword must be able to do that, so get out and train a little bit, fifty push-ups and sit-ups a day to start put worth, and keep increasing. Squatting and basic weight training is helpful to! But remember your Daggers and Sabre's are in pretty good shape and you must be able to keep up with them or else they'll be sitting ducks with selective suppression fire coming from your gun.
10. Brains, you've got to be smart about what you do, it's a given.
