Fundamentals of Defensive Tactics


Key Terrain:

a. Secure positions of advantage
  1. High ground
  2. Barricades or Bunkers
  3. Good cover and Concealment

Cover & Concealment:

a. Ambush
  1. Use the element of surprise to your advantage -- The OpFor needs to come to you

Observation & fields of Fire:

a. Prevent Surprise --
  1. Keep eyes on OpFor once located
  2. Keep your Flanks tied in tight to the objective
b. Deny OpFor a good obs point --
  1. Try to control all high ground
  2. If unable to control, stay concealed
c. Fields of Fire --
  1. Good angles
  2. Overlapping amongst the FT members
  3. Clear and mostly unobstructed
  4. Set up on the OpFor's avenue of approach
  5. Set up in a good concealed/covered position
  6. Don't open fire until the majority of the OpFor is in the "Kill Zone".
Acronyms:
OpFor - Opposing force/Bad Guys
Obs - Observation
FT - Fire Team
